GREENFIELD — Hancock County Retired Teachers awarded grants to active teachers at the group’s November meeting.

Lori LaBelle, D’Lee Rush and Adam Eaton were recipients of the Indiana Active Teacher Grants from the Indiana Retired Teachers Foundation.

LaBelle and Rush of Mt. Vernon Middle School were awarded a $500 grant for their project, “Healthy Heart, Healthy Life: Heart Adventure.” The project is a combined physical education and FACS (Family and Consumer Science) unit where sixth grade students work their way through a model of the heart and learn about proper nutrition along the way.

Eaton, band director at Eastern Hancock High School, was awarded a $500 grant for his project “Eastern Hancock Music Production: The Art of the DJ.” The project enables high school students to use a standard DJ controller to create and arrange their own music and learn about the music industry.

The awards were presented by Marty Mullin, IRTA Area 7 director.
